Beat Dry Winter Skin
The winter months can wreak havoc on your skin leaving you feeling dry, irritated, and lackluster. Gear up for Winter by boosting your skin care regimen and following these few suggestions.
Heating systems dry out the air, so consider installing a humidifier in your home, particularly in your bedroom, to put moisture back into the air and help prevent your skin from drying out.
Turn Down the Heat:
Hot showers and baths always feel good in the winter, but when you can, particularly when just washing your face or hands, choose lukewarm water to avoid stripping as many oils away from the skin.
Your skin not only needs more moisture, but moisture right after you wash. Applying moisture to damp skin helps seal that dampness into the skin. Keep a bottle near the bathtub, shower stall, and at every sink and use liberally every time you wash.
Be sure to moisturize day and night with a heavier moisturizer than you would choose in the summer months. Look for moisturizers that contain hyaluronic acid like Glymed Plus Ultra Hydro Gel and ceremides like GlyMed Plus Cell Protection Serum which help your skin hold onto moisture and protect your skin’s delicate barrier. Moisturizers with these ingredients absorb nicely and do not clog the skin.
Sunscreen still applies. Just because it’s cold out doesn’t mean the sun isn’t still strong. Apply SPF every day after you moisturize!
Hydrate From the Inside:
We tend to drink less water in the winter because we turn to hot drinks like cocoa and tea, but don’t forget that your skin needs hydration from the inside, out. Eating foods high in water content can help hydrate your skin from the inside out as well. Try watermelon, cantaloupe, apples, oranges, kiwi, and watery veggies like celery, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, and carrots.
Make sure you’re getting enough vitamin C and zinc to support the healthy production of collagen and elastin. Also consider an Omega 3 fatty acid supplement, or consume more fatty fish and flaxseed to give your skin the building blocks it needs to appear supple and smooth.
Outdoor Enthusiasts Beware:
More reflective UV exposure during the Winter leaves you more susceptible to damage so wear your sunscreen. The elements and elevation on the mountain also suck the moisture out of your skin so try applying a barrier cream like GlyMed Plus Protection Balm or GlyMed Plus Amino Acid Epidermal Sealant with PC 10 . You can also incorporate GlyMed Plus Skin Recovery Mist to force life back into dehydrated, irritated, and lackluster skin with a dose of hydrating and healing algae, hyaluronic acid, and vitamin B. It’s easy to use and you can use it through out the day as needed and even over make up.
Modify Your Skin Care Regimen:
It is normal and recommended to modify your skin care regimen according to the time of year. Your skin’s needs change with the seasons.
